Landscape sculpture: experts’ opinion

About your style:

It is difficult to assess, describe and analyze myself objectively. Probably in my case behind a brutal and monumental form hides a gentle, funny, unprotected and at times melancholic soul. You can call it primitivism, modernism, metamodernism, or you can call it bronze cartoons.

About favorite materials: Initially I make a sculpture out of clay, which for me is a very special living and wonderful substance, and it is in it that the image is born. Afterwards the work is shaped, translated into material. I’ve worked with stone, wood and ceramics and I’ve realized that I feel best with bronze. Though I often make big sculptures not only from bronze, but also from composite, a strong and light material, which allows to move three-meter sculptures in a playful way.

On how to choose a sculpture for the garden:

If you want a real contemporary sculpture in the garden, you need to buy it from artists with the appropriate professional education, recognizable plastic language, leading an active exhibition activity, plus choose numbered unique works, made by small author’s edition (not more than 12 pieces).

On the peculiarities of garden sculpture and rules of placement:

As for placement, it all depends on the specific architectural situation. There can not be a universal answer. In any case, the sculpture organizes and gives personality to the area in which it is located. Sculpture is an emotion, a feeling conveyed by plastic methods. In the landscape and in the urban environment it is the dominant feature, the soul, and it is not utilitarian at all. That is its strength. www.muravina.com
